The active ingredient in My Way® is called levonorgestrel. Levonorgestrel is a hormone that, when taken within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected sex or failure of contraceptive methods, can prevent a pregnancy before it begins. Please email hello@tbd.health to request a telemedicine consult with a licensed healthcare provider at TBD Health if you have additional questions on how levonorgestrel works. You can also contact your licensed healthcare provider or a pharmacist.
It is recommended that My Way® should be taken within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected sex or contraceptive failure (like a broken condom or missing 2 days of birth control, for example). The sooner My Way® is taken after one of these events, the more likely it will be effective.
There are factors that can affect the effectiveness of My Way®, like: your weight, where you are in your menstrual cycle, how soon you took the pill after unprotected sex or a contraceptive failure, and if you’re on any other medications or drugs that might interfere with the drug. If you weigh more than 165 pounds, we recommend speaking with your healthcare provider because My Way® may not work as expected for you.
There are also alternatives for emergency contraception, such as Ella or a copper IUD, which may be right for you. Talk with your health care provider or email hello@tbd.health for more information.
If your period is more than a week late after taking My Way®, it is recommended that you take a pregnancy test or talk with your health care provider.
Ella is an alternative to emergency contraception (see FAQ above) that will need to be prescribed by a licensed healthcare provider. If you email hello@tbd.health, we will be able to refer you to a licensed-provider for a telemedicine consult to determine if Ella is right for you. These appointments are typically available within a couple of hours of the request. If Ella is prescribed, you will then pick it up at your local pharmacy. You may also talk to your healthcare provider to determine if Ella is right for you.
No, My Way® is not intended for use as regular birth control.
Side effects may include changes in your period, nausea, lower stomach (abdominal) pain, tiredness, headache, dizziness, and breast tenderness. Call your health care provider if you experience any of these or other symptoms after taking My Way®. If you vomit within 2 hours of taking My Way®, call a healthcare professional to find out if you should repeat the dose.
Do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to levonorgestrel.
